Board administers superintendent’s oath, approves personnel recommendations and school improvement plans

The new superintendent addressed the board, saying, "I'm humbled and honored for this opportunity," and thanked the board and staff while referencing the foundation laid by past leadership, "for what doctor Vassajan laid the foundation for."
Chairman Davis announced item 8 and said the board would take executive session under general statutes for personnel matters, to prevent disclosure of confidential student information, for attorney–client privilege, and to "formulate plans by local board of education relating to emergency response and incidences of school violence and school safety components of the school improvement plans." The motion to enter executive session was made, seconded and carried; the board later returned to open session.
Back in open session the board took formal action on personnel: a motion was made to approve the superintendent’s recommendations for personnel changes and the chair announced the motion carried. The board also approved the 2025–26 school improvement plans by motion and vote.
In remarks about the district’s fiscal picture, Chairman Davis clarified that the board added roughly $30,000–$35,000 to fund balance in the audited year, acknowledged a $500,000 county contribution from the prior year and noted the district is budgeting to use about $1.8 million of fund balance this year. He said maintaining fund balance gives the district time to manage prior cuts without more drastic action.
The superintendent reminded the board and public of upcoming events including Agricultural Awareness Day and the Veterans Day holiday. With no further business, the board moved to adjourn and the chair announced the meeting was adjourned.
