The Nevada City Council proclaimed April 2026 as Arts, Culture and Creativity Month at its April 8 meeting, recognizing the economic and civic role of arts and culture and thanking Nevada County Arts and Culture for local partnership.
Eliza Tudor, executive director of Nevada County Arts and Culture, thanked the city for the proclamation and noted the county’s cultural district work and the Culture Forward 2026–2032 action plan intended to strengthen cultural infrastructure across the county. "This visible recognition helps affirm Nevada City's long standing leadership in recognizing arts and culture as part of civic life," Tudor said.
Jana Arbax, program manager for the Grass Valley–Nevada City Cultural District, described the county/city collaboration and called the proclamation ‘‘more than a celebration’’ — a recognition of arts as civic assets that shape identity and local economies.
Councilmember Daniella also read a statement announcing that the California Heritage Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP) will be publicly known as Hooshway, a Nisenan word, reflecting an expanded, tribally guided mission focused on land rematriation, cultural revitalization and language work.
Council members paused for a group photo with the arts representatives and thanked the organizations for their work.
