Council approves PAG-funded youth art IGA; plans a large community photo frame near La Vida Community Center

Public works staff presented an intergovernmental agreement with the Unified School District to participate in the Transportation Art by Youth program funded by Pima Association of Governments (PAG). Staff said PAG generally makes $25,000 available per year and that funds can be banked for up to three years to support larger projects; the town proposed banking two years for roughly $50,000 toward a metal 'picture-yourself-in-Sahuarita' frame to be located on the northwest corner of Sahuarita Road and La Vida near the community center.

John Garcia, who said he has worked in the town streets division for nearly 19 years, walked council through past projects (town lettering, underpass murals, painted traffic cabinets) and described program rules: 20% of funds go directly to participating students and projects must be in the right-of-way or on town-owned property (or otherwise secure approvals). Garcia said the town assumes responsibility for maintenance after installation and showed examples of similar installations.

Council asked staff about logistics, parking and graffiti concerns for painted cabinets; staff said they will follow up on maintenance schedules and that the resolution authorizes the IGA. Council approved the resolution unanimously.
