NEASC visit, building project and FY27 cooperative finances highlighted in Millis committee update

Summary
Committee members reviewed a NEASC collaborative visit that produced commendations and recommendations for curriculum alignment and facilities; the superintendent also reported cooperative financials, finalist interviews for a curriculum director and updated enrollment figures.
The Millis School Committee received a report on the March collaborative review by a visiting team from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and heard related updates on the district building project and cooperative finances on April 7.
The visiting team identified three focus areas for ongoing work: curriculum documentation and alignment (including standardized curriculum maps), vertical articulation across grade levels, and facilities/resources. Committee members were praised for the high school's inclusive culture, interdisciplinary opportunities and capstone projects (‘sophomore research’ and the senior project). "They specifically mentioned the sophomore research project and senior project," one committee member said while summarizing the visiting team's commendations.
The visiting team noted the district's building project had passed voter approval and recommended continued attention to safety and maintenance while construction proceeds. Committee members said the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) will conduct additional checks and soil testing during April vacation, coordinated with the town DPW; the committee asked that abutters be notified in advance.
Superintendent (speaker 5) provided the cooperative/tech Q2 financial update and noted that one online school (TeKa) will leave leased space, reducing sponsorship revenue after FY27; however, the Student Data Privacy Alliance (SDPA) remains a steady revenue source. The superintendent also reported enrollment totals: Clyde Brown 600, middle school 289, high school 284, out-of-district 22, choice students 49 (total in-district 1,176; in-and-out 1,198).
Committee members affirmed the staff's work preparing for the NEASC visit and the building project; no formal votes were taken on accreditation items during the meeting.
