Summary
Committee members agreed to draft and price MUTCD‑style wayfinding signs from Rosewood to the municipal complex, plan to reuse existing signposts, and discussed sizes, materials and potential low‑cost vendors; a Boy Scout will install a bike rack and kiosk at the Depot Building.
The Town of Farmington Bicycle and Trails Advisory Committee on April 8 agreed to move forward on installing wayfinding signs to direct people to the municipal complex and Farmington High School.
Committee member Bruce said he will prepare a graphic showing routes from Rosewood through the municipal complex, request pricing from local vendors and a prison‑manufacturing option, and return with installation estimates. Members discussed using MUTCD‑style blanks in sizes ranging from about 4 by 6 inches to 6 by 9 inches, mounting signs on existing signposts to avoid obscuring street or speed signs, and ordering separate arrow plates to keep costs down. "I'll draw something up and get some prices and get those installed," Bruce said.
Andres, a committee member who volunteered to help with the design work, offered to coordinate with a local sign vendor he knows in Grandview and to review available templates. Committee members recommended UV coating for vinyl graphics to prevent fading and debated whether aluminum blanks with adhesive vinyl graphics or coated vinyl alone would be preferable. Donald said large bulk orders are cheaper, and the group discussed the cost advantages often available through prison‑manufactured signs for large runs.
Separately, the committee discussed a proposed Eagle Scout project to add a bike rack and kiosk at the Depot Building near a new trail‑to‑coffee‑shop connection. Bruce said the scout will include local depot history on the kiosk and the committee advised running designs by the Farmington Valley Trails Council for consistency with valley‑wide signage.
The committee did not take a formal vote on funding at the meeting; members assigned Bruce and Andres to assemble graphics, vendor contacts and prices for review at a future meeting.
