Willacy County Commissioner’s Court approved several ceremonial proclamations and routine administrative items during its April 9 regular meeting.
The court proclaimed April 26–May 3, 2026, as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week and approved a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as World Wish Month for Make‑A‑Wish Rio Grande Valley. Becky Gerhardt, who identified herself as CEO of Make A Wish Rio Grande Valley, and other representatives explained the chapter’s local service area and volunteer activities. The court also approved a proclamation recognizing National Crime Victims Rights Week and heard announcements about an April 23 resource fair and a candlelight vigil later the same day.
The court approved contracts with the county elections office to conduct and supervise the City of Lifers and Drainage District No. 1 elections on May 2, 2026, and granted the district attorney’s office permission to activate existing interior hallway cameras with signage for public notice. All items were approved by voice vote when moved and seconded.
These actions were routine approvals; they do not, by themselves, create new county programs or expenditures beyond previously budgeted commitments for proclamations and election administration.
