During the consent portion of the meeting trustees approved a credit change order of $2,548.78 with TBS Contractors Incorporated for interim housing related to Los Banos High School, and they approved change order number 1 with Collins Electric for the Los Banos Junior High School fire‑alarm upgrade. Trustees also approved change orders 8 through 11 with TBS Contractors for the Pacheco High School CTE greenhouse/classroom project.
Facilities staff (Miss Monday) told the board the new early education/TK center is set to open Monday, with temporary traffic control in place and landscaping and final punch‑list work continuing. The Miano restroom building delivery is delayed to Jan. 19 with occupancy expected around Feb. 16. At Volta Elementary, exterior doors and frames have been installed and stucco work is curing; staff said interior work will follow once the building is enclosed.
Miss Monday said mold remediation in the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms will be added to the modernization scope via a forthcoming change order because the work was not part of the original contract and would exceed staff approval thresholds. She said the district will bring a change order to the board for approval once final pricing is available.
On the junior‑high fire alarm project, staff explained an electrical panel upgrade was discovered to be necessary after construction began; the architect accepted responsibility for design‑fee work and agreed not to charge its design fee for the rework, though district funds are still needed to pay for the panel and installation labor. Staff estimated the additional equipment/labor at roughly $120,000 (documented in the facilities presentation backup), and told trustees that incorporation of the work will extend that project’s timeline by about 90 days (projected completion in March for the fire‑alarm upgrade).
Trustees asked several clarifying questions about timelines, student impact and scopes of work before voting. Recorded motions and outcomes matched the staff recommendations and were carried as presented.
The board also approved two architectural‑services amendments from Teeter Architects: amendment No. 2 for the Las Menas High School modernization (the architect’s fee percentage declined slightly after bids, from approximately 9% to 8.76%) and amendment No. 5 for the Volta Elementary modernization, which reflects increased fees tied to delays; staff said the district may seek reimbursement for delay‑related costs from the architect or contractor where appropriate.
The board’s actions will allow contractors to proceed with the listed work; staff said additional change orders may be returned to the board as final prices and schedules are confirmed.
