The Calexico Unified School District board voted to accept the district’s 2024–25 financial report and audit after a presentation by Wilkinson, Hadley, King & Company.
Kevin Spruill, the lead auditor, told trustees the audit opinion was unmodified — the result auditors and districts typically seek. Spruill summarized the report’s components (government-wide statements, notes, required supplementary information) and outlined recent GASB changes and fund-classification presentations that affected how some columns appear in the report.
Spruill identified one audit finding tied to year-end close and certain journal entries related to the district’s solar loan project. He said the adjustments did not produce a fiscal impact for the district and that staff had signed a corrective action plan. Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Luis de la Torre said the district would contract with ASB Works to improve ASB accounting controls.
Following trustee questions about prior-year ASB issues and corrective steps, the board moved, seconded and approved the financial report by voice vote; the motion passed 5-0.
The board’s acceptance opens a standard period for staff to complete any corrective tasks listed in the audit’s action plan and for trustees to monitor remediation at subsequent meetings.
