Board approves $6.89 million in payments, zoning change, Youngs Drain payment and routine county business

On Feb. 11, 2026, the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners approved multiple routine and budgetary items during its meeting, authorizing payments, land-use changes, procurement and personnel actions.
The board approved Invoice Edit Reports (various dates), payroll batches for Jan. 16 and Jan. 30, and authorized warrants for wire transfers, ACH and EFTs for a grand total of $6,891,473.72. The motion carried on a roll-call vote of 7–0.
The board adopted Ordinance #26-02-01 to amend the county zoning map in Rush Township (parcel 002-24-200-002) from B-2 (General Business) to B-3 (Highway Service), following a Planning Commission recommendation and a public hearing held by the Planning Commission on Jan. 28, 2026. The ordinance was adopted on a 7–0 vote.
On a 6–1 vote, the board approved full payment of the Youngs Drain assessment in an amount not to exceed $254,370; Commissioner Matthew Shepard cast the lone nay. The board also authorized purchase of a Ford Explorer from Gorno Brothers Inc. for an amount not to exceed $46,908; that motion carried 7–0.
The board approved appointments (Matthew Baldwin to the GLS Region V Planning Commission and Shirley Smith to a regular ZBA seat), accepted the 2025 Register of Deeds and County Clerk year-end reports, and approved refilling two corrections deputy positions, one 911 dispatcher position and one district court deputy clerk position, all by unanimous votes where recorded. Chairman Brodeur had no additional report and adjourned the meeting at 6:15 p.m.
