The Prince George County School Board spent a large portion of its April 13 meeting recognizing staff and students across the division before moving to program updates.
Administrators presented Support Employee of the Year honors for each school and for division offices. Winners named included Larry Goodwin (Beasley), Michelle Grias (Harrison), Robin Stewart (Middle Road), Dana Gill (North), Beverly Naidu (South), Trish Floyd (Moore), Courtney Groves (MB Clements), Rebecca Elmore (Prince George Education Center), Tory Masterson (Prince George High School), Jeanette Spicer (transportation) and Lisa Dean (division office). Patrick Barnes and others introduced Lisa Dean as the division support employee of the year; Dean thanked colleagues and family during brief remarks.
The board also recognized three students who represented Prince George in the VSBA Southside regional art contest, with Aubrey Winn finishing first at the high-school level and advancing to the statewide competition in June 2026.
Miss Sweet presented an overview of the district’s 2026 summer-school programs. Changes include housing all elementary programs at Middle Road Elementary and all secondary programs at Prince George High School, aligning enrichment to the full 11‑day summer schedule, and—most notably—providing transportation for all programs. The calendar runs Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 25 with a teacher work day in June and a holiday on June 18. Miss Sweet said last year the district served 544 students and provided transportation for 186; with the new transportation plan the division expects increased access and possibly higher attendance.
The board thanked the PTO and PTA representatives for community support; a JEJ Moore PTO representative described multiple volunteer and fundraising projects including a memorial garden and scheduled May 21 community ceremony. No public commenters signed up for the meeting’s public-comment period.
The meeting closed after board business and a motion to return to closed session for additional personnel discussions.
