"We really are coming behind her," Buchanan said, urging county support to speed permitting and inspections.
Staff and members noted two applicants at PDRC: Madison Mills (a proposed storefront and short-stay/crafting operation on Route 15) and an RV sales/service operator (Ace RV Rental) relocating from Fairfax and pursuing rezoning for a nine-acre site near Route 29. Members discussed potential tourism marketing, including July 2 VA250 events (picnic, reenactors, and bike races), banners and promotional materials, and the possibility of a community FabLab or performance venue tied to tourism.
Separately, RSA’s wastewater plant equipment upgrades are underway; staff noted that treatment capacity will not change until a new outfall is completed and that RSA had previously mentioned a December 2027 timeline for some components.
The committee also agreed to schedule another town hall (proposed for August) to update residents on revenue and spending and to solicit tourism and community ideas.
Next steps: staff will continue permitting assistance, promote VA250 events, monitor RSA quarterly updates and follow up on Madison Mills and Ace RV rezoning as applications progress.
