Committee approves amendment to let DMV evaluate other states’ school‑bus driver qualifications

Jennifer Tramp, communications director for the New Hampshire Senate, read a statement from Senator Ricciardi introducing amendment 1438s to House Bill 17‑58. The amendment would permit the Division of Motor Vehicles to evaluate whether a driver's qualifications in another state meet New Hampshire's training, testing and safety standards and to automatically issue a New Hampshire school‑bus driver certificate to applicants from states the DMV finds equivalent. The change is intended to help address shortages of certified school bus drivers in parts of the state, including the Upper Valley.
