The Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners took several administrative actions during its Tuesday meeting.
The board approved a proclamation declaring April 2026 as Fair Housing Month and heard remarks from Mike Wallen of the Lower Columbia Association of Realtors. The board approved the consent agenda, which included a call for bids on the 2026 countywide striping project (bid opening 05/11/2026), recording of a rescission for an emergency stormwater easement, a retirement letter and a petition requesting a no-parking zone at 2425 Klima River Road. Staff noted vouchers totaling $9,656,009.68.
On juvenile detention contract matters, Juvenile Court representative George Moyer requested additional time to consult risk and civil staff and coordinate with other counties; the board voted to table the contract until the June 2 meeting and continue month-to-month operations under the existing contract. For the telecommunications franchise hearing, county counsel advised that the named applicant/footprint had changed mid-hearing; commissioners terminated the current application and required a new, properly noticed filing before further action.
