Auditor issues clean opinion for 2023; EAC summarizes community sustainability work

The borough’s independent auditor told Lansdale Borough Council on March 18 that the 2023 financial statements earned an unmodified ("clean") opinion and that internal-control deficiencies identified at the start of the audit had been addressed by a new finance team.
Chris Herr of Veil LLP said the audit opinion means the 2023 financial statements are free of material misstatement and comply with GAAP and GASB pronouncements. He acknowledged the auditors encountered historical issues—bank reconciliation differences and incomplete accruals—when audit work began, but said borough staff and a new finance team spent roughly a year reconciling and correcting the records so the 2023 statements could be issued as a clean opinion. Herr said the draft 2024 financial statements were nearly complete and expected to be issued soon.
Council members thanked the auditor and borough staff for remediation. Questions focused on causes of the earlier reconciliation errors and assurances that ongoing audits would be smoother; the auditor said 2024 work is largely done and the next audit cycle should be on schedule.
Later in the meeting the Environmental Advisory Commission delivered its annual update: the EAC chair (speaker 10) outlined events and programs from 2025, including an Earth Day collaboration with parks and recreation, invasive knotweed removal on stream corridors, rain-barrel events, electronic recycling, nature and bird walks, and outreach to local schools. The commission flagged priorities for 2026—dark-sky awareness, plastic reduction and a shade-tree ordinance—and said it will continue supporting stormwater education and active-transportation planning.
The council thanked EAC volunteers for their work and the mayor and staff for supporting implementation. The EAC asked for continued council liaison engagement as it pursues commission activities.
