Environmental Programs Manager Kraig Mize recommended initiating abatement for the following five properties: 1225 Iron City Road, Anniston (owner Dewayne Raney/Jerry Raney); 323 Chickasaw Drive, Anniston (Debbie Barr c/o Raymond (L.E)); 1640 Dripping Rock Road, Piedmont (Angelika Sloan); 23596 AL Hwy 9, Piedmont (Randall L. & Freida Christopher); and 3409 Greenwood Drive, Anniston (Jennye Renne Lankford c/o State of AL). Commissioners Henderson and Shears moved and seconded adoption of the resolutions; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Mize also presented recommendations to dismiss nuisance designations for six properties (56 Milligan Street; 1332 Willet Street; 54 W. Front Street; 0 Front Street; 0 Maxann Drive; 4415 Skyline Drive). Commissioners approved the dismissals unanimously.
The commission approved two nuisance-related invoices presented by Mize: $330.00 for 331 E 54th Street, Anniston (owner Billy Hodge c/o State of AL) and $1,030.00 for 435 E 54th Street, Anniston (owner John Emigh c/o Law Laura). Commissioner Wilson moved to approve the invoices; Commissioner Henderson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Later in the meeting Mize recommended declaring nine additional properties as public nuisances (311 Weaver Lane, Weaver; 384 Autumn Lane, Anniston; 313 Weaver Lane, Weaver; 4215 Wellborn Avenue, Anniston; 720 W. 38th Street, Anniston; 320 W. Medders Street, Anniston; 138 Magnum Road, Wellington; 2611 Paul Street, Anniston; 611 N. Marshall Street, Anniston). Commissioner Henderson moved to declare the properties as recommended; Commissioner Shears seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Owner Dewayne (Jerry) Raney, whose property at 1225 Iron City Road was among those recommended for abatement, addressed the Commission and said he was unsure what steps were needed to remove the nuisance designation. Mize offered to meet with Raney after the meeting to explain next steps and remediation requirements.
All motions related to nuisance declarations, dismissals and invoices passed by unanimous voice vote. Owners had been notified of the meeting; commissioners noted that many owners or their representatives did not attend.
