Maywood board defers $40,000 Irving Middle School safety pilot request

Summary
The Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership asked the Board for $40,000 to start a walking-route pilot for Irving Middle School; trustees moved to return the proposal to the next meeting with more information and supporting materials.
Marche Williams of the Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership, NFP, presented a proposal March 19 seeking Village support of $40,000 to pilot additional walking-route safety measures for Irving Middle School students. Williams described the program as an added layer of support beyond existing crossing guards and requested Village funding of $40,000 to launch the pilot.
Trustees K. Wellington and H. Yarbrough said the proposal was presented as a request and did not require immediate board action; they and other trustees asked that the Coalition return with additional documentation and a budget to support funding. Trustee I. Brandon moved — and the Board unanimously agreed — to bring the item back on the next agenda for further discussion.
What’s next: The Coalition will supply supplemental materials and a detailed budget for trustees to review at the next Regular Board Meeting.
