Mayor Basciano introduced Sheila Norwood and her son Abe, who had participated in a student shadow day with city departments. Sheila Norwood told the council the experience was “an amazing experience” and thanked the mayor and staff for their openness and hospitality.
"He had a great time," Sheila Norwood said of her son.
Abe, identified in the meeting as a Lawrence School sophomore, told council members the law department interested him the most. He said it seemed “interesting” and “sometimes complicated,” and that he would enjoy a career in that area.
Council members praised Abe’s presentation and composure. The council president said he was “incredibly impressed” with how Abe presented himself; other councilors invited the student to return or to reach out for mentorship.
The exchange took place during the public-comment/presentation portion of the committee meeting; it drew brief questions from council members but no formal action.
