Loveland City Council unanimously appoints James Thompson as permanent city manager
Summary
At a special meeting, the Loveland City Council voted unanimously to approve an employment agreement naming James Thompson the city’s permanent manager. Councilors praised Thompson’s leadership; Thompson thanked the council and said he looks forward to serving Loveland.
The Loveland City Council on Oct. 29 unanimously approved a resolution to hire James Thompson as the city’s permanent manager. The action came during a special meeting in which councilors said Thompson’s experience and leadership would benefit Loveland.
Councilors described a lengthy selection process that narrowed a strong candidate pool to two finalists. Councilor Olsen said the council had ‘‘great candidates’’ but that Thompson ‘‘is going to benefit tremendously.’’ Councilor McFall and others echoed praise for Thompson’s leadership, ability to build teams and the positive feedback staff provided during interviews.
James (Jim) Thompson addressed the council before the vote, thanking members for their support and saying he looked forward to ‘‘the opportunities and challenges’’ ahead. ‘‘I appreciate everyone’s support and I appreciate the process,’’ Thompson said.
After discussion, the council conducted a roll call vote and approved the employment agreement by a unanimous vote. Mayor Marsh welcomed Thompson aboard; the resolution text and effective start date were not specified during the meeting.
The vote followed no substantive public opposition during the item’s public comment period; the council moved to the next agenda item after approval.
