Summary
At its March 24 meeting the Board approved a reappointment to the Council on Aging, authorized $85,000 in rural grant funding recommendations (conditional on permits), approved an agreement allowing the Alton High Fence Committee to place fence inside the county boundary, and the Board of Equalization approved the county's exempt properties list.
Kane County commissioners took several administrative and funding actions at their March 24 meeting in Kanab, approving grant recommendations, an appointment, a public-right-of-way agreement and the Board of Equalization's exempt-property list.
Reappointment: During a public hearing Chair Gwen Brown opened consideration of reappointments to the Kane County Council on Aging; no public comment was offered. Commissioners were told Loretta Ozga could not continue serving and the Board approved Resolution R 2026-9 to reappoint Beverly Dinsmore for a term running Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2029. The motion was made by Commissioner Brown and carried unanimously.
Grants: Commissioner Celeste Meyeres presented recommendations from the Kane County Economic Opportunity Board to fund the Farmers Market ($10,000) and a Downtown Façade, Tenant Improvement, Sign & Beautification Grant Program (up to $75,000) using Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) funds. Approval was conditioned on grantees showing proof of proper permitting and processing; the Board approved the recommendations unanimously.
Alton fence agreement: Taylor Glover described an 8-foot deer fence around Alton that property owners organized to repair via the Alton High Fence Committee. The committee sought permission to place a portion of fence just inside the county right-of-way. The Board approved an agreement allowing the work and making the committee fully responsible for the fence segment.
Board of Equalization: Clerk/Auditor Chameill Lamb reviewed exempt-property renewal procedures and noted a process omission: exempt properties should be approved through the Board of Equalization. The BOE approved the county's exempt properties list, including provisional approval for two properties that had not returned paperwork pending completion. The BOE meeting adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
Consent items: At the start of the meeting the Commission approved the consent agenda, including Check Edit Reports for March 11 ($222,015.06) and March 17 ($598,884.93) and previous minutes from March 10, 2026.
Vote summary: All formal motions recorded in the minutes were approved unanimously by Commissioners Gwen Brown, Patty Kubeja and Celeste Meyeres.
Next steps: Staff will monitor permit compliance for grant recipients, the Alton Committee will proceed under the terms of its agreement, and the Clerk/Auditor will follow up on outstanding exempt-property paperwork.
