The Lamar County Board of Education approved several land and lease actions during its July 15 meeting, including assignment of Sixteenth Section Lease #953 to Charlie Brock and an amendment to a prior TBM Property lease to change its start date.
Board counsel presented the lease documents and the board approved the assignment and new 40-year residential lease at an annual rate of $600, following a motion by Jordan Carlisle and second by Shae Farmer (unanimous vote). Counsel also presented an amendment to the TBM Property lease to reflect a June 20, 2025 start date; the board approved that amendment by unanimous vote.
The board authorized advertisement for bids on three hunting leases (640 acres in Lamar County Section 16 Township 3 North Range 15 West; 630 acres in Pearl River County; and 70 acres in Lamar County Section 16 Township 1 North Range 16 West). The board also granted a recreational lease to MJET, Inc. in Section 16 (Township 4 North, Range 16 West) contingent on a reappraisal of an easement.
In a separate real-estate action, the board approved payment of $78,333.33 to Mary Jones for assignment of her lease and purchase of improvements at 28 Foster Road, Sumrall; the closing will occur in the near future. The board also authorized sealed bids for sale of improvements on a two-acre parcel recently purchased from Nathan Daley.
Why it matters: Sixteenth Section land and related leases are an important source of local revenue and land-use decisions for the district; these actions change leaseholders and start dates and authorize future revenue-generating bids.
Next steps: Counsel will process the lease assignment paperwork and advertise the hunting leases for bid. The MJET lease will proceed to reappraisal for the easement determination, and closing for the Foster Road purchase will be scheduled by staff.
