Community Board 11 nominating committee agrees to present contested slate of officers, contingent on acceptance

The Community Board 11 Nominating and Election Committee agreed Tuesday night to present a slate of candidates for several officer positions at the boards April meeting, contingent on the nomineesaccepting their nominations.

A committee member moved to present "Cynthia Rodriguez for chair, Richard Reynoso for vice chair, Duane Williams for treasurer, and Hazel Muir for secretary" as the committees slate, contingent on each persons acceptance. The motion was seconded and the committee affirmed that the slate would be presented at the full-board April meeting and that additional floor nominations would be accepted at that time. Debbie Kowalik, who was nominated for the committee chair position during the session, said, "I accept," after the committee put the nomination forward.

Committee members discussed process details before formalizing the slate. Staff reminded the group that the bylaws limit the chair to two terms and noted that different officer positions follow different timelines: the treasurer seat is on a May calendar and other incumbent seats will be voted on in June. The committee debated whether to solicit nominations by email ahead of the April meeting or to present nominations during the meeting; members who objected to pre-meeting email outreach argued nominations have historically been made on the meeting floor.

The committee made clear that the slate recorded during this session is contingent on the nomineeswillingness to serve and that the full-board meeting will serve as the opportunity for final nomination and any floor challenges. No formal full-board vote on these nominations was recorded during the nominating committee meeting.
