Resident asks council for clarity on Glacier Edge Trail railroad crossings

During the council’s open forum on Nov. 3, resident Dwayne Cookman asked where the Glacier Edge Trail path will run on the old dairy property and whether railroad-crossing arrangements were public information.
"Can we see where the path is gonna be? ... Is that public knowledge or is that up on the website someplace?" Cookman asked. The mayor answered that preliminary drawings exist but are not posted on the website and described negotiations with the railroad.
The mayor and council members explained that the typical bargaining with railroads can lead to compromises. Rather than surrendering a crossing in a one-for-one exchange, staff said the city expects to refurbish and upgrade two crossings (signals and track bed) as part of the negotiated outcome. "It's a compromise," the mayor said, describing upgrades at locations including Saint Andrews and South Union as part of the negotiated package.
The exchange highlighted public interest in path alignment and the need for staff to make design documents accessible to residents as the project moves forward.
