Berkeley County proclaims March 2026 as Red Cross Month, hears chapter statistics

Representatives of the American Red Cross's Greater Shenandoah Valley chapter presented program statistics and asked the commission to adopt a proclamation recognizing March 2026 as Red Cross Month.

Josh Mongold, who identified himself as the chapter board chair and a Berkeley County resident, summarized the chapter's local footprint. "The American Red Cross mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing power and volunteers and generosity of donors," Mongold said, then summarized volunteers and services: 265 volunteers in the chapter (49 from Berkeley County), assistance to about 200 families, collection of more than 18,000 units of blood within the chapter footprint, nearly 7,000 people trained in lifesaving skills, more than 1,000 people trained in preparedness education, and installation of thousands of smoke alarms in homes.

After the presentation the chair read the proclamation text into the record and asked for a motion. The commission moved, seconded and adopted the proclamation by voice vote. Following the vote, the chair invited a photo with the Red Cross delegation.

The presentation and proclamation recognize volunteer contributions and public‑education efforts in the county; representatives noted cross‑county and cross‑state mutual aid within the chapter's footprint.
