Resident urges accessible path, better maintenance at Rose Garden

Summary
A local resident asked the commission to add a paved path, address sprinkler and border issues and restore worm‑casting maintenance at the Rose Garden to improve access and plant health; staff said they will follow up and put Christopher in touch with the resident.
During public comment, resident Brian Yory described maintenance and access problems at the Rose Garden and urged the commission to add a paved pathway to improve disability access and to address irrigation and border issues affecting the roses and butterfly garden. "My daughter's in a wheelchair, so there's absolutely no disability access to the roses," Yory said, and he proposed building a path so parents with strollers and people using walkers or wheelchairs could reach the plantings.
Yory also described recurring maintenance tasks: requests for periodic worm castings and regular mulching for roses, and reported theft of about half of the rose name tags. He offered to expand plantings if the city would remove a narrow grass strip and provide a path. The resident asked the commission to work with staff and community groups, including Rotary, to arrange mulch drops and volunteer help.
The director acknowledged the issues and said staff would put Christopher in touch with Yory to review feasible solutions, while noting some requests may be more significant and require follow-up work with public works. "We'll put Christopher in touch, and I'll follow-up with Christopher on some of the things," the director said. The commission reminded commenters of a five‑minute public comment limit.
