Summary
The board approved a Washington, D.C., trip for Round Lake and McGee middle schools (estimated cost about $1,500 per student, with optional popcorn fundraising and payment plans) and discussed/approved a repeat overnight high-school basketball trip to UW–Stevens Point limited to 12 athletes per camp.
The Round Lake Area Board of Education voted April 20 to approve an overnight Washington, D.C., trip for Round Lake Middle School and McGee Middle School for the 2026–27 school year and discussed a separate high-school overnight athletic trip to the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
Staff described the middle-school trip as scheduled for Casimir Pulaski weekend (Feb. 27–March 1) and said the projected cost per student is approximately $1,500. Staff said payment-plan options will be available and students may participate in an optional popcorn fundraiser to offset costs. “It’s about the same from last year,” a staff member said when asked whether the cost had risen.
Board members asked about fundraising alternatives and whether the vendor offers per-student crowdfunding links; staff agreed to explore links and other options to assist families. The board approved the proposed second-semester overnight trip to Washington, D.C., by roll call.
The board also reviewed a high-school girls’ basketball overnight field trip to a camp at UW–Stevens Point. Administrators said the camp’s roster limit is 12 athletes (the camp’s stated maximum) and that accommodations would be two to a room in university residence halls with at least two female coaches chaperoning nearby rooms. Staff described the student-selection criteria as factors including interest, availability and consistent attendance at school and off-season practices; a coach offered to provide the exact selection parameters to the board on request.
Both the D.C. trip and the high-school overnight trip were presented as repeat trips; the D.C. trip motion passed by roll call at the meeting. Staff emphasized that final pricing and vendor contracts may not be locked until a later step, and that some trip costs are projections.
