The superintendent updated the board on recent district events, praising staff and students for participation in an AVID showcase and describing a quick facilities response after a storm at Yankee Town School.
"I was able to attend at Joyce Elementary, the national AVID showcase," the superintendent said, noting teacher and student panels and calling the event successful. The superintendent singled out staff member "Breezy" for traveling to Yankee Town on Easter to inspect storm damage and said custodial and maintenance teams completed cleanup quickly so students could return safely. "Made sure that it was safe for the kids to go back the next morning," the superintendent said.
Board members also reported on school activities. Ms. Campbell (S7) said Bronson Elementary School and Bronson Middle High School won recent book-battle competitions and described a Cedar Key art festival that had lower-than-usual attendance. Bradford (S2) said Chiflin Elementary begins testing next week and noted a PBIS program at the middle high school called "busy," explaining that "students are able to earn currency, through grades, behavior, and things such as that," with the ESE classroom coordinating prizes.
The board offered brief congratulations to staff and students on recent events and recognized staff who assisted with storm cleanup. The meeting then moved on to routine items and adjourned.
