Summary
Officials told the board that receipts were about $1.3M higher year‑over‑year, the lunch program brought in roughly $170,000 in the month and the district received an NDE bus grant; the special building fund balance was reported at $13.6 million with about $6.6 million remaining after committed projects.
Ralston Public Schools leaders updated the board April 13 on district finances and capital projects.
The finance director reported that receipts were about $1.3 million higher than the prior year while disbursements were roughly $400,000 higher, driving the district’s bottom line to about $1 million more than the same point last year. District tax collections were lagging the seasonally expected rate (about 31% collected versus an expected 58% in an even distribution), the director said.
The lunch program produced a stronger month—bringing in about $170,000—and reduced its negative balance roughly by half compared with the same time last year, when the lunch account was negative $278,000. School staff credited improved collection work and federal fund increases, and the board singled out cafeteria staff for the recovery.
Superintendent Buckingham reported the special building fund (SBF) balance was $13,600,000 as of April 10. After contract commitments for high-school phase work and roofing projects (about $2.7 million and $2.8 million respectively), the district estimates approximately $6.6 million remaining before accounting for additional items on tonight’s agenda (including a proposed theater sound-system refresh).
Officials also confirmed an NDE bus grant arrived, which reduced the district’s planned activity/bus budget costs.
Board members asked clarifying questions about tax timing and the bond tracker and were told staff will continue to monitor receipts and obligations and return with updates at future meetings.
