Summary
The board awarded a $40,333.09 bid for vehicle stabilization equipment (including training) and approved purchasing a forestry UTV for $19,989.99; the board also authorized sale of a surplus 2013 Polaris UTV via online auction.
The Select Board voted April 21 to award a $40,333.09 contract to Harrison Schroeder Enterprises for vehicle stabilization equipment for the Wells Fire Department. The purchase covers replacement airlifting bags and additional stabilization tools plus in‑service training ($3,200 in the bid).
Fire Department staff said many airlifting bags have reached their expected 15‑year life and that the new equipment will allow crews to stabilize larger vehicles, box trucks and some semis encountered on the highway. “These bags have about a 15‑year life on them…this will replace those airbags and fully complement the equipment we currently have,” the department representative said.
The board also awarded a bid for a forestry utility terrain vehicle (UTV) to Travis Brothers Management for $19,989.99. The new forestry UTV will replace a worn Polaris 6x6 and the department plans to upfit the new unit for EMS and forestry roles to ensure interoperability between machines. The board authorized selling the 2013 Polaris surplus UTV through an online auction platform.
