At the March 16 meeting Superintendent R. Baney reported that the Petersen Auditorium HVAC project is in its final stage of completion and that the Kewanee High School addition has received occupancy approval from the Regional Office of Education. Baney said the addition will host its first performance on Wednesday.
Baney also reported that Principal Mrs. Tidwell and Claire Olalde are coordinating with Black Hawk College to seek approval for a CNA program; the college needs to inspect facilities before any program approval is granted. Mrs. Baney said no FOIA requests had been received.
The board recognized the Central Junior High football team and coaches and the 7th- and 8th-grade boys basketball teams and coaches for their achievements during the 2025 season. Annie Costenson was honored as the Central Junior High nominee for the IESA Scholar Attitude Award, and Aaliyah Swearingen received a board resolution honoring her qualification as a state wrestling qualifier; coach Charley Eads was recognized alongside Swearingen.
The recognitions were presented at the start of open session and were followed by routine board business.
