During council communications at the July 24 meeting, Councilmember Baker asked why residents must visit multiple locations to buy lawn bags and city stickers. City Manager Gary Bradley explained that stickers are available at City Hall, several gas stations, and grocery stores and said the city does not restrict retailers from selling them.
Councilmember Komnick asked Keith Edwards, the director of community development, about a perpetual yard sale on East Prospect. Edwards said the resident has a court order to clean the property and that staff are coordinating a time to perform cleanup if the resident does not comply.
Mayor Moore offered condolences to friends and family of James Jones, congratulated Diane Packee and volunteers on the Prairie Chicken Arts Festival turnout, and reminded residents that the Miss World Festival Pageant will be Aug. 5 at Kewanee High School from 6–8 p.m., with 69 applicants. Announcements included a closure of the City Hall front office on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. for staff development; other departments will operate normally. The city also reminded residents that there are no burn days in July and August.
No formal council action was recorded on the lawn-bag distribution or the yard-sale enforcement beyond the staff status update.
