Council approves amendment to Microsoft allocation area; public meeting scheduled

The Common Council voted April 20 to approve amendments to the La Porte Consolidated Economic Development Area as part of alignment with the city’s existing Microsoft project.
Bert Cook, executive director of the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, told the council that the amendment aligns the allocation area language with the parameters of the Microsoft project already under construction and that a confirmatory resolution will return to the redevelopment commission at its next meeting. Cook invited the public to a community meeting on the Microsoft project from 4 to 7 p.m. the next day at the Civic Auditorium where Microsoft and project staff planned stations to answer specific questions.
Council members voted in favor of the resolution on a voice vote. Cook emphasized the amendment only affects the allocation area within the city limits that is already under construction, not the expanded area under separate consideration.
