The Bonham City Council on Jan. 12 adopted a resolution nominating Gene Wise to fill a vacancy on the Fannin Central Appraisal District (FCAD) board of directors.
Mayor John Burnett said he had spoken with Gene Wise, who indicated he is willing to serve. Council Member Allen Sanderson moved to approve the resolution nominating Wise; Ernie Quintana seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 6-0.
City documents referenced in the discussion note that the vacancy arose because there were only four nominations for five positions on the FCAD board for the 2026'2027 term, creating a Jan. 1, 2026 vacancy. The transcript states that at the first regular meeting on Jan. 26 the newly sworn four members will choose, by majority vote, the final board member from qualified nominees submitted by the tax units and that nominees must meet the qualifications and sign the Section 6.0302 Acknowledgement of Duties.
The council's action on Jan. 12 forwards Bonham's nomination to the FCAD selection process; the final appointment will be determined according to the process described in the district materials at the Jan. 26 meeting.
