Clanton council holds hearings; first readings scheduled for annexation and rezoning

The Clanton City Council recessed into a public hearing on Feb. 23 to consider two land-use matters and later read two ordinances for first consideration.
The first item was an annexation petition for property at 1509 County Road 28 submitted by property owner Barbara G. Minor. Mayor Jeff Price opened the hearing for testimony; no members of the public spoke in favor of or against the annexation. The hearing was closed with no public testimony recorded; Councilmember Awlahjaday Agee later read Ordinance No. 2026-01 (first reading) and said a copy is available for review at Clanton City Hall. The ordinance will likely return at a future council meeting for additional action.
The second item was a rezoning request to change the zoning of 307 3rd Avenue N from O-1 (Office Building District) to B-2 (General Business District). Patrick Connell spoke in favor of the rezoning, saying he supports having another business on the road. No one spoke against the application during the hearing. Councilmember Agee read Ordinance No. 2026-02 (first reading) describing the parcel (PIN 11542, Parcel No. 14.11.07.36.3.005.007.002) and noted the owners/applicants were Kevin and Haley Lively. Agee said the ordinance text is available at City Hall and will likely be considered at a future meeting.
Both items were handled at first reading or public hearing stage; neither ordinance was adopted at this meeting. Further council consideration and any formal votes will be recorded at a subsequent meeting.
