Brainerd council approves code enforcement changes, construction-surveying agreement and staff hires

At the May 19 meeting the Brainerd City Council approved several routine and committee-recommended actions intended to support operations and capital projects.
Safety and Public Works Committee Chair Tad Erickson presented a proposed code enforcement ordinance to allow staff to perform active enforcement (rather than complaint-driven only) along major thoroughfares such as Business 371 and Highway 210 and around city parks. The council approved the committee motion to advance that change.
The council also approved an as-needed agreement with SEH to provide construction surveying for multiple projects because in-house capacity was exceeded, and it approved a modest equipment and lighting upgrade for downtown flagpoles (total cost cited at $825) to enable proper raising/lowering and lighting.
In personnel items brought by the Personnel & Finance Committee, the council ratified hiring Trevor Hines as Technology Specialist effective May 21 (hourly wage and step were specified in the packet) and accepted, with regret, the resignation of Dylan Ferrari and authorized staff to begin the hiring process to fill that position.
These actions were presented as operational steps to maintain service continuity and to support ongoing capital work; council members indicated the survey agreement and flagpole work would be funded from existing departmental budgets.
