Fayette County commissioners on Oct. 23 approved several transportation-related contracts and project actions intended to address road resurfacing and long-range design work.
The Board awarded RFP #2605-P naming LJA Engineering, Inc. as the Public Works Engineer of Record under a contract through June 30, 2026, with two one-year renewal options. The Board also approved Contract #1981-Q, Task Order #7 (NTE $460,201.65) to Practical Design Partners (PDP) for final design plans for the SR 279 Realignment Project (GDOT PI 0017813). Public Works Director Phil Mallon said the SR 279 project remains on schedule and includes sidewalks and paths and that construction could begin as early as winter 2028 if design and right-of-way proceed.
Roads Director Steve Hoffman presented two resurfacing procurements: Bid #26045-B for Hot-In-Place Asphalt Recycling to Gallagher Asphalt Co., Inc. for $328,405 to cover about 4.02 miles in the Chanticleer subdivision, and Bid #26042-B Micro Surfacing to Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc. for $899,475. Hoffman explained the recycling method and noted weather and vendor availability constraints. The Board approved both awards 5-0.
Separately, the Board approved County Public Works performing paving and stormwater repairs at Lake Kedron Reservoir in Peachtree City in the amount of $187,096.70.
All motions related to these engineering and resurfacing contracts passed unanimously.
