Council backs keeping '2050' in Advance Addison title; plan slated for Feb. 10 adoption consideration

Town staff presented updates to the draft comprehensive plan, Advance Addison, and council discussed whether to retain "2050" in the plan title, citation and link updates, and the project’s adoption timeline.

Leslie, director of development and neighborhood services, said staff had corrected citations, updated related plans (including master water/wastewater/stormwater plans), produced a redline showing every change, and recommended retaining the project year (2050) as a clarifying label. Several council members said the date makes the plan easier to identify and signals the time horizon of the vision; others said a shorter horizon might seem more realistic, but most favored keeping 2050.

Council members asked about public access to drafts and supporting materials; staff confirmed a public project website, a redline for edits, and that an executive summary exists near the front of the draft. Staff told council it planned to return on Feb. 10 with adoption language but would accept further comments between now and then.

Why it matters: the comprehensive plan frames policy and priorities for land use, housing, transportation, economic development and community facilities. Staff said the document is intentionally visionary and implementation steps include periodic market reports and targeted implementation tasks for council and staff.
