Summary
Studio Camera Architects gave the board a construction update on Bullitt East, Bullitt Central and North Bullitt projects, reporting an established substantial completion date for one contractor (March 18), a May 15 date of correction for punch-list items, upcoming furniture install and turnover plans, and several change orders including additional lighting and a required guardrail.
Studio Camera Architects' representative Kate Noble Ward told the Bullitt County Board of Education on April 20 that exterior work at the district's new facilities is largely complete and that contractors are working through punch-list items ahead of summer turnover.
"For the most part, with the exception of planting, we've got pretty 100% completion-ish on exterior work," Ward said, listing courtyard and outdoor-classroom finishes, cafeteria connections and a loading dock. She said furniture installation is scheduled to begin in June and Bullitt East is expected to be turned over to administration on July 1.
Ward said the contractor's substantial completion date has been established as March 18, with a May 15 date of correction for outstanding punch-list items. She explained that substantial completion allows the district to use the work while the contractor addresses remaining deficiencies.
The update identified several change-order items that remain: installation of a cable/data tray that lagged because of material delays, added interior lighting around locker rooms and mop sinks, required bulkhead and infill to separate restrooms from workout spaces, and a code-mandated exterior guardrail where the elevation change exceeds 30 inches. Ward also said the project paperwork will reflect a vendor acquisition that requires a materials substitution from Duraflex to Sherwin Williams for some finishes.
Ward described site logistics for the coming months, including crane activity at Bullitt Central and installation of a geothermal field and parking work at Bullitt East along Highway 44. She said stadium-side lighting additions will illuminate sidewalks so the district will not need to rely on field lights for pedestrian areas.
Board members asked clarifying questions about classroom work and timing. Ward said the old portion of buildings is not being renovated in the current phase; the new construction and its connections are the focus.
The board discussed these items during the facilities/construction portion of the meeting. No separate vote to accept or reject specific change orders was recorded in the public discussion during Ward's presentation; the board was informed of the schedule, compliance-driven guardrail and remaining punch-list work.
The board next moved to communications and audience comments after the construction update.
