Weselaco presents Breast Cancer Awareness proclamations and community partners announce screenings and walk

The Weselaco City Commission used the recognitions portion of its Oct. 8 meeting to present proclamations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to highlight local health partners' services for residents.

Magali (city staff presenter) introduced proclamations honoring the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Deaf Awareness Week; Jorge Solis and representatives from South Texas College's interpreting program were recognized for their partnership with the library. The commission then recognized breast‑cancer survivors and invited local hospital representatives to speak.

Sarah, identified as business development and marketing manager at Knott (NAP) Medical Center, told the commission the hospital will offer a special $99 mammogram rate in October and that Nat Medical (referred to in the record as NAP Medical Center / Nat Medical Center) will donate 100 free mammograms for uninsured Weslaco women through its Mission Pink program. Survivors and family members shared brief remarks about screening and early detection; the mayor and commissioners encouraged residents to attend a community walk organized for Oct. 18 at 8 a.m., starting at City Hall.
