The Burleson City Council unanimously approved a specific‑use permit Sept. 2 permitting a package/liquor store at 185 Northwest John Jones Drive (Suite 150) inside an H‑E‑B shopping center.
Development Services Director Tony McElwain explained the request and noted the lease space is about 1,370 square feet. Ron Thoreau, representing Twin Liquors and H‑E‑B, described Twin Liquors as a Texas‑based retailer with more than 100 locations and outlined its record of community philanthropy.
Planning and Zoning recommended approval by a 4–2 vote at the commission stage (staff noted the previous hearing had been continued). Council reopened the continued hearing, accepted the presentation and approved the SUP with a condition that liquor sales apply only to the addressed unit; the vote was unanimous.
What’s next: The applicant may proceed with tenant improvements and coordinate with H‑E‑B; any expansion into adjacent lease space would require further approvals.
