Waxahachie council approves supplemental funds for civic center and senior center studies
Summary
Council approved a $18,500 supplemental appropriation from the WCDC reserve to expand the civic center study (raising the project to $93,500) and a $14,000 appropriation from the general fund reserve to expand the senior center study; senior center representatives said membership exceeds 1,600 and parking capacity is strained.
The Waxahachie City Council approved two supplemental appropriations to broaden feasibility and programming studies for the civic center and the senior center.
City staff requested an $18,500 supplemental appropriation from the Waxahachie Community Development Corporation (WCDC) unrestricted reserve to add a market and demand analysis and program recommendations to a previously budgeted $75,000 civic center expansion study, increasing the total to $93,500. Staff said the WCDC board unanimously approved the request on Jan. 12, 2026.
For the senior center, a speaker identified as John asked the council to approve an additional $14,000 from the general fund reserve to add an ADA study, extra meetings and a town-hall session for members. John said membership has grown “well over 1,600 members” and that the center had exceeded its parking capacity on the day he spoke.
Council members expressed support. The council approved both supplemental appropriations and authorized the city manager to execute necessary documents; the motions passed by voice vote and the transcript does not show a roll-call tally.
