Platte River Power Authority cleared to begin construction on permitted project; board seeks update on Rawhide timetable

Rebecca Everett, the county’s community development director, told the Board of County Commissioners on April 27 that the Platte River Power Authority has satisfied technical conditions for a previously approved 1041 permit and that a development construction permit has been issued.
"They will be starting construction very soon," Everett said, and staff said PRPA will place signs on nearby county roads and that PRPA will provide its own communications about on-site construction activity.
Commissioner Kefalas asked whether PRPA remains on track to shut down the coal-fired Rawhide plant by 2029; Everett said she could not answer that question immediately and would check with the county’s sustainability staff, noting that a PRPA work session is scheduled for May 18 where the board expects further updates.
What’s next: staff said they will try to provide a more recent update on PRPA’s decommissioning timeline in advance of the May 18 work session.
