Oneida County Board creates separate Solid Waste Committee to oversee Solid Waste Department

On April 21 the Oneida County Board adopted an ordinance amendment to create a stand‑alone Solid Waste Committee and remove the Solid Waste function from the combined Public Works and Solid Waste Committee. The change establishes a five‑member committee appointed by the County Board Chair with duties to approve Solid Waste Department bills, assist in preparing the annual Solid Waste budget and perform duties listed in County Code §8.04.
Supervisor Billy Fried, who offered the ordinance, told the board that Solid Waste is a separate business unit and separating committee responsibilities will provide more focused oversight of both the Highway and Solid Waste departments. The ordinance text amends sections of the General Code relating to committee appointment, committee jurisdiction and purchasing rules to reflect the change.
The board approved the measure by roll call, 18 Aye; 2 Nay (Robb Jensen and Kyle Kilbourn); 1 Absent (Showalter). The resolution states that committee expenses will be charged to the Solid Waste budget. The ordinance takes effect the day after passage and publication as required by law.
