Representative Knox presented House Bill 457 to allow the Louisiana Department of Health and the State Fire Marshal to promulgate minimum housing standards for homeless shelters, group homes and halfway homes following a recommendation from the legislative auditor. The committee adopted an amendment changing the statutory duty from 'shall' to 'may' so that agencies can phase implementation and avoid a large fiscal note.
