County staff presented three paths to address overcrowding and modernize courthouse workspace: move the assessor into engineer space with minor remodels and shift engineers into IT space; reconfigure IT and recorder offices to create assessor rooming; or construct new office space at the CSB/Freeport site (the most costly alternative). The board discussed tradeoffs, public‑access to records (vault access), timelines and potential costs ranging from modest remodeling to several hundred thousand dollars or more for new construction.
