County committees update commissioners on economic development and climate‑action implementation

Two advisory committees briefed the commission on recent work and next steps.
Sean McClendon, economic development manager, presented EDAC's annual report and work plan. He said EDAC, reestablished by resolution 21‑64, advised staff on PD amendments for the Ecoloop (opening land‑use opportunities for non‑smokestack industries such as aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing), airport‑gateway policy issues and the Eastern Alachua County study. McClendon said an MOU with Space Florida and Alachua County Public Schools had been countersigned locally and was pending Space Florida countersignature; the agreement would link local high‑school curriculum to aerospace career pathways.
Separately, Jennison Kipp, resiliency specialist, and CCAC chair Terry Clark delivered the Citizen Climate Advisory Committee annual update. Kipp noted the committee's expansion to ten members, including a youth representative, and that the CCAC is shifting from plan development to implementation with emphasis on prioritizing actions, stakeholder engagement and integrating equity and community vulnerability into deliverables. The county's new sustainability manager, Matt Williams, introduced himself and described operational sustainability experience he will bring to implementation efforts.
Commissioners asked that CCAC and EDAC coordinate with university faculty, the school district and other expert stakeholders as they move to implementation and suggested staff map existing programs and funding streams so the commission can identify early, fundable priorities.
Next steps: EDAC will return with an enabling resolution to secure its work; CCAC will proceed to implementation planning and identify priority actions and metrics to bring back to the board.
