North Haledon approves police personnel moves; council advances police-department code changes to August hearing

The Borough of North Haledon Council on July 20, 2022, approved several personnel actions affecting the police department and moved forward multiple ordinances to final reading.

Under Consent Agenda #8-2022 the council approved the appointment of Detective Sergeant Anthony Padula as Detective Lieutenant, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2022, with salary in accordance with the 2022 Salary Ordinance. The council also accepted resignations and appointed Lacey Morrison and Brandon Chmiel as probationary police officers effective immediately, and appointed a slate of full- and part-time dispatchers (including Tarron Douglas as a full-time dispatcher and Ryan Jennings, Michael Schlosser, Joseph Dimartino, Adam Zindaki and Jeremy Guerrier as part-time dispatchers). Council Member Pomianek recorded a negative vote on the appointment item but the consent agenda otherwise carried.

Separately, the council introduced and passed on first reading Ordinance #19-2022 and Ordinance #22-2022, both pertaining to the Police Department. Ordinance #22-2022 would set the department maximum at 25 sworn officers and specifies the rank breakdown (1 chief, 2 captains, 2 lieutenants, 1 detective lieutenant, 4 sergeants, 2 detective sergeants and 14 police officers). Ordinance #19-2022 deals with fees and administrative handling for off-duty assignments. Both ordinances were scheduled for final consideration on August 17, 2022.
