North Haledon council adopts ordinances targeting unregistered and abandoned vehicles
Summary

On July 20, 2022, the Borough of North Haledon Council adopted two ordinances aimed at limiting unregistered and abandoned motor vehicles.
Ordinance #16-2022 adds §169-5.1 to the borough code to prohibit parking of unregistered motor vehicles on all public streets and roadways within the borough and on private property. The ordinance authorizes the Police Department to tow vehicles found in violation and makes towing an additional enforcement remedy. Council Member Iacobelli moved to adopt the ordinance on second reading; Council Member Puglisi seconded and the motion carried on roll call.
Ordinance #17-2022 amends Chapter 576 (Abandoned Vehicles) to clarify that members of the Police Department are authorized to remove vehicles from streets, municipally owned or leased land, Board of Education property, or private property under enumerated circumstances. The ordinance authorizes the Police Department and the Property Maintenance Officer to issue notices of violation and to impound vehicles that meet the specified criteria. That ordinance also passed its second and final reading by roll call vote.
Both ordinances were read by title, the public floor was opened and no members of the public spoke, and each was adopted by roll call vote during the meeting.
