Chair Alderman Bauman introduced a substitute ordinance aimed at improving safety for parking structures following a localized structural failure in an apartment building’s parking area. The measure would require owners of qualifying parking decks to hire third-party structural engineers for periodic inspections and to file reports with the city; the Department of Neighborhood Services said many buildings that meet façade-inspection thresholds could roll inspection requirements into the same cycle.
