Rowlett residents urge replacement trees and notice after developments move forward

During public comment at the Nov. 11 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, residents raised concerns about notification and tree replacement related to nearby developments.

Tony Acree, who said he lives at 4800 Edgewater Drive, said he was within 150 feet of a Main Street development that had been denied at an earlier meeting in 2023 but was later approved and under construction without additional notice. He asked where residents’ opportunity to comment had been and urged the commission to ensure neighbors are notified of changes. "I live within 150 feet of this development... I found out that it was approved. Where was our opportunity to comment?" Acree said.

Calvin Tack, who lives at 5610 Greenway Drive adjacent to the Paragon project, said Paragon bulldozed several trees while tying into a sewer line and rebuilt a masonry wall without planting replacements. He asked the commission to ensure the developer fulfills promises to replace trees; Tack said he and his neighbor had no objection to the evening's requested changes but wanted enforcement on replanting.

Chair Cote thanked the speakers and closed the public‑comment period; no formal action resulted from these remarks during the meeting.
