President McClellan opened the April 27 board meeting by announcing that Superintendent Sawyers has accepted an offer from the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio and will remain under contract through July to assist with transition and the search.
Superintendent Sawyers told the board the decision "was the hardest decision I've ever made in my professional career," thanked staff and community partners and said he is grateful for his time in the district. After brief discussion, the board voted to accept his resignation.
Following that vote the board moved into executive session under Ohio Revised Code §121.22(G)(1) to consider appointment, employment and compensation matters involving a public employee or official. When the board returned, members voted to authorize the treasurer/CFO to enter into an agreement with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio to conduct a superintendent search as part of membership services.
The authorization was approved by roll call. President McClellan said the district will use the remaining contract time with Sawyers to "use that up" and to assist with the search process. The board did not set a public timeline for the search during the meeting.
The board adjourned after completing the vote to authorize the search.
